The crypto subsidiary of Block, formerly known as Square, has recently demonstrated its Lightning Development Kit (LDK) which aims to turbocharge the Bitcoin network. A video published by the team at Spiral exhibited the capabilities of Bitcoin Lightning and the LDK.
With the LDK, developers will be able to easily plug their applications into the network on point-of-sale terminals and mobile devices. Since it supports native APIs (application programming interfaces) using programming languages like Rust, C, Swift, Java and Kotlin, developers can customise their wallet app for their users in the desired language without the need to separate Bitcoin and Lightning Network (LN) wallets.
In the same video, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey described the LDK as a program that eases the process of developing a wallet for developers. The video features Jack Dorsey in a form of a puppet paying for services at physical stores with Lightning Network via his mobile LN wallet app.
Since its inception in 2019, Spiral has been developing Bitcoin wallet solutions. Besides the LDK, Spiral is also working on the Bitcoin Development kit, which enables the interactions of cross-platform mobile wallet.
Conor Okus, product manager at Spiral, is predicting that its LDK would fuel the adoption of Bitcoin and the LN by enabling people across the globe to store value and take part in economic activity.
