Famous digital artist Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple, is likely to launch “immersive 3D NFTs” for the Solana blockchain. Beeple is known as the Picasso of NFTs.
Stephen Hess, CEO Metaplex Studios, the Solana NFT marketplace, announced this at Lisbon, the venue of Solana’s Breakpoint Conference in Portugal, on Sunday.
“In partnership with the Render Network, we’re excited to welcome Beeple to Metaplex and Solana,” Hess announced, adding Beeple would be “debuting the future of streaming and immersive 3D NFTs.”
A slide immediately after the announcement showed that users will be invited to “create your unique NFT with a Beeple Everyday” using a “randomized set of objects and time to create with.”
Render Network, a peer-to-peer service for providing 3D rendering power is involved with Beeple as its advisor.
Render Network allows individual creators and small studios to tap into distributed rendering power without expense of building a local rendering farm.
In March 2021, Beeple’s “Everyday: The First 5000 Days” NFT project was sold for a mind-boggling $69.35 million at the art auction center Christie’s becoming the most expensive NFT ever sold.
Solana is likely to cheer at this move. Recently, the daily sales of NFTs on the Solana blockchain fell and hit the lowest level in more than a year amid the crypto winter as the value of most cryptocurrencies plummeted more than 70%.
Solana NFTs’ daily sales volume slid to $1 million for the past couple of days and is a fraction of its daily sales in late August 2021 when it peaked to $48 million plus.
The decline in Solana NFTs has been attributed to the rise of the Aptos blockchain, a Proof-of-Stake Layer blockchain conceived by former Meta engineers.
