YouTube has prevented an XRP cryptocurrency scam from being promoted on the popular YouTube channel DidYouKnowGaming, which was hacked last week. After falling victim to a Google account hack, the DidYouKnowGaming crew took to Twitter to alert their 2.4 million YouTube channel followers that they could no longer access it, media reports said.
The perpetrator, who infiltrated the DidYouKnowGaming account, aimed to promote a fraudulent scheme associated with the digital currency by altering the profile picture to feature the XRP cryptocurrency emblem. However, YouTube was quick to act, asking the YouTuber for specific information to help them regain access to their account.
DidYouKnowGaming received a response from the verified Twitter account of YouTube, stating that they would require some basic details before linking them with a team of experts who specialize in recovering compromised accounts.
The incident highlights the growing risk of hacks and scams in the cryptocurrency industry. Several notable hacks and exploits led to over $100 million in losses for investors and projects in April alone.
