Charles Schwab Corp CEO Rick Wurster has indicated the company is aiming to launch spot Bitcoin trading services for its clients by April 2026. Speaking to RIABiz, Wurster cited a significant 400% surge in traffic to Schwab’s cryptocurrency website as evidence of strong investor appetite for digital assets.
Wurster expressed optimism about the regulatory landscape, stating, “Our expectation is that with the changing regulatory environment, we are hopeful and likely to be able to launch direct spot crypto. Our goal is to do that in the next 12 months, and we are on a great path to be able to do that.”
This move by Schwab under its new CEO, Rick Wurster, who took the helm in 2025, underscores the growing trend of traditional financial institutions integrating cryptocurrency offerings. Wurster had previously stated the company’s intent to provide direct crypto trading once a favorable regulatory environment materialized, particularly following Donald Trump’s reelection.
Further solidifying its foray into the digital asset space, Charles Schwab announced a partnership in January 2025 with Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) to develop customized exchange-traded funds and cryptocurrency services for TMTG’s upcoming “Truth.Fi” platform. Truth.Fi aims to be an alternative financial system encompassing both digital and traditional assets. TMTG CEO Devin Nunes has positioned the initiative as a response to concerns about unfair banking practices and censorship.
