American Cancer Society (ACS) has recently revealed that their third most donated cryptocurrency is Dogecoin. Of all contributions that ACS has received, the most popular meme coin takes up 4% of the share.
Back in May 2021, ACS started accepting Dogecoin donations. With a plethora of different cryptocurrencies, including Shiba Inu – a rival of Dogecoin, the organization makes it possible to accept crypto donations with the assistance of a popular cryptocurrency donation solution – The Giving Block.
In order to raise $1 million to further their cancer research, ACS launched its Cancer Crypto Fund campaign last year, and the goal was met in time earlier this year. Crypto philanthropy has significantly affected the organization in a positive way.
Christian Linge of SafeBreast Inu donated $250,000 in October, which to this day is the biggest individual contributor to ASL Cancer Crypto Fund.
Way back in 1913, ACS was established by New York physicians and businessmen. The founders of the voluntary health organization envisioned to raise awareness about diseases through education. Cancer research and patient support receive a majority of the ASL’s resources as investment.
After the massive cryptocurrency bull run in 2021, meme coins like Dogecoin has proven to be popular with different charitable organizations. In late December, the world’s largest breast cancer charity – Susan G. Komen, started accepting Dogecoin and Shiba Inu.
An American non-profit National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) also began accepting 30 different cryptocurrencies last month.
