It is harder to get gas flaring exemption permits these days. Although there are existing solutions to gas flaring that many Oil and Gas companies are waiting for, all of them are underused. In Wesco Operating Inc’s case, it has decided to install EZ Blockchain’s new Smartgrid Flaring Mitigation System to get around this issue.
The purpose of gas flaring is to eliminate the unneeded gas via combustion, releasing the excess energy in the form of flames. Instead of combustion, the Smartgrid Flaring Mitigation System converts natural gas into electricity that crypto mining operations run on.
The solution worked just as expected, and Wesco believes that it is a win-win situation for all; with the EZ Blockchain model being able to monetize from natural gas and the gas flaring being reduced from 240,000 scf per day to 0.
Back in 2020 when Wesco just got acquainted with EZ Blockchain, approximately 140,000 scf of natural gas per day was flared and wasted. The first EZ Smartgrid Flaring Mitigation System came with a 30-foot mobile data center Smartbox and a generator.
In just over a two days span, the system was deployed. Seeing that the early results were positive, Wesco raised the project’s scale by 200% by purchasing another EZ Smarttank Container with efficient crypto mining equipment.
A fully operational crypto mining system has significantly lowered the gas flaring to 0 mcf per day in February 2021.
