The United States Space Force (USSF) has scheduled the launch of the fifth vehicle for its GPS III fleet of satellites, in order to further expand the GPS navigation services for military and civilian users.
After forming an agreement with CMG Worldwide, GPS III Space Vehicle (SV) 05 has been named “ARMSTRONG” by the USSF GPS III team as a tribute to the pioneering American astronaut Neil Armstrong.
Aside from naming SV05, the agreement also includes production of the first USSF non-fungible token (NFT) collection — “Armstrong Satellite NFT Launch with Space Force.”
This collection consists of interactive augmented reality (AR) NFTs made by WorldwideXR and VueXR, both of which are digital artist companies that specialize in creating immersive, experimental content for consumers.
A limited edition digital twin NFT of the “ARMSTRONG” satellite will be featured in the collection, created to scale and can be accessed by its owner on the VueXR app.
Joining the series are the GPS III SV05 “ARMSTRONG” Coin and Patch NFTs, which are modeled after the commemorative coins and patches commonly reserved for members of the USSF mission team.
There will also be a 3D depiction of the 30-plus satellites currently orbiting around the Earth forming a GPS constellation. These and other NFTs will be in limited quantities.
The collection will be available on two different NFT platforms, starting with Star Atlas on June 14 — which is three days before the schedule launch of the ARMSTRONG satellite.
