Thailand’s DEPA joins leading university to groom Metaverse talents

Thailand’s Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) partners with Bangkok University to enhance coding skills for over 10,000 primary secondary students and teachers with a metaverse course for education, aiming to support the growing digital economy.

The joint project called Coding for Metaverse aims to upgrade technology and innovation knowledge for students so that they can code and create a virtual world.

The project is done on Roblox and taught by experts from the Multimedia Intelligent Technology Center and the Faculty of Information Technology and Innovation, Bangkok University.

The goal is for the participating students to have basic knowledge about technology and innovation for creating a virtual world. The project also aims to develop a network of coding education to make it more accessible for students nationwide, so that they can become capable citizens in the digital world in the future.

It is expected that more than 10,000 students will learn coding skills and more than 200 teachers nationwide will be trained so that they can pass on the knowledge to their students.

Chatchai Khunpitiluck, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operation Officer, Digital Economy Unit of Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), said that DEPA has the policy to empower people for the digital era, with a goal to offer digital skills to more than 500,000 people and upgrade digital skills for people nationwide.

The project also receives support from Future Skill, a Thai startup, who puts the course on a popular e-learning platform so that primary and secondary level students can learn coding.

According to DEPA, the game industry will continue to grow in the future and play a role in other industries, such as the finance industry in which GameFi or Game NFT will provide ways to earn money. Technology can make games more fun and engage for other industries.

“The government and the private sector’s support will help motivate the new generation to proudly join the game industry. The Coding for Metaverse Project will prepare the new generation to grow up to be game developers for the game industry in the future,” said Chatchai

Assistant Professor Dr. Kingkarn Sookhanaphibarn, Head of the Coding for Metaverse Project and lecturer of the Multimedia Intelligent Technology Center, Bangkok University, said that the Coding for Metaverse Project brings together coding experts to train more than 10,000 students nationwide, and upskill more than 200 participating teachers nationwide under the “Taking Teachers to the Coding World” project so that they can pass on the knowledge to their students and groom a new generation of children who can code as metaverse creators.

Teachers in upper primary and secondary levels will be given digital skills, coding skills, and knowledge about new technology trends such as NFT and blockchain. They will also be trained to help prepare their students for the digital economy.

The teachers will be able to educate their students through gamification to make learning more fun and creative. It is expected that more than 10,000 students will join this project and more than 200 teachers nationwide will be trained. The teachers and students who have completed the training will receive a certificate from the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa).
