A revised Ethereum roadmap was revealed by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin in a string of tweets on November 5.
In particular, the “The Scourge” phase of the Ethereum roadmap prioritizes trustworthy and impartially neutral transactions are included. As Ethereum shifts to proof-of-stake, it also aims to address the issues of centralization and censorship that emerged after the Merge.
The Verge will introduce “verkle trees,” which hold more information in a smaller proof and permit smaller node sizes. Now, the phase also includes “verification” to make the use of SNARKs for block verification incredibly simple.
Additionally, there are more detailed milestones for each category. The involvement of quantum proofs will be more evident as a necessary component of the “endgame” protocol.
After 51% of Ethereum blocks complied with OFAC guidelines, the increasing censorship of Ethereum has become a growing cause for concern. According to mevWatch data, the percentage of blocks created in the last day that comply with OFAC has reached 73%.
Buterin aims to tackle MEV concerns with the “The Scourge” phase. Buterin has even shared some solutions such as “partial block auctions” to reduce Ethereum censorship. According to him, “partial block auctions” can decentralise block production and limit the influence of builders. Additionally, using a non-censoring MEV-Boost relay will guarantee Ethereum’s neutrality.
