XRP CTO Said Ripple is yet to reach 1500 live TPS

David “JoelKatz” Schwartz, the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Ripple, recently took to Twitter to clear up misinformation in the XRP community. While responding to a tweet from Scams Are Bad (@ScamDetective5), he revealed that the XRP Ledger (XRPL) is yet to reach 1500 live transactions per second (TPS).

The conversation began when a Twitter user, Scams Are Bad, shared a list of misinformation in the XRP community that needed to be addressed. Schwartz replied to the tweet, confirming some points and clarifying others.

In particular, Schwartz noted that the XRPL currently sustains around 300-500 TPS, despite the Ripple website’s claim that it “consistently handles 1,500 transactions per second, 24×7.” He explained that the website’s wording was poorly chosen and suggested that the XRPL technology had the capability to handle 1,500 TPS, but the live network had not yet achieved that level of activity.

Schwartz’s clarification prompted Scams Are Bad to ask why the Ripple website would make such a claim if it was inaccurate. Schwartz acknowledged that the statement was misleading and agreed that the website’s wording needed to be improved.

While the XRPL has not yet achieved 1,500 live TPS, Schwartz suggested that it could do so in the future.

The XRPL is a decentralized blockchain network that facilitates cross-border payments and settlements, with XRP as its native cryptocurrency.

Schwartz also addressed other concerns in the XRP community, stating that the network needs the internet for the foreseeable future and that there are currently no Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) on XRPL. He also clarified that creating a basket containing XRP is currently only useful for cryptocurrency index exposure.
